Sub-Ship Ahoy!

This week has been all about Hogwarts (on Ravelry) challenges.

One Professor challenged us to craft something related to Durmstrang or Beauxbatons, the other schools participating in the TriWizard Challenge.

Besides Viktor Krum's quidditch broom, and Beauxbatons fluttery sighs - what's the most striking thing?  The ship that sails underwater of course!  It just pops up out of the lake, sails and all.  So here it is...

Of course, around here, it will end up a pirate ship just as soon as I can craft some. :oP

The second challenge is a Gryffindor house pride project.  We're all making lion related projects to submit together.  Here's Gryffie, who now lives on my Very Potter Bookshelves.

He doesn't look that ferocious, does he?

I've also been on a bit of a poncho kick lately.  Not only are they easy crafting, but very useful.  I've been wearing this poncho around the house and loving it.  Warm, but somehow without the sleeves it's much more comfortable for working at my desk or crocheting.

Despite the diamond shape in the photo, I like to wear it with the long points at the arms... oh so cozyOf course, around here, it will end up a pirate ship just as soon as I can craft some. :oP

I also made an amazingly soft cotton lace poncho.  It's obviously not as warm, but very pretty if I do say so myself.
I've discovered that most people call this a 'capelet' instead of a poncho.  Must be my southwestern background showing.

Speaking of which, I have yarn to make a Clint Eastwood as "Blondie" style poncho for Steve so watch this space!

And now.... for the most recent parade of hats and gloves!  Most of these are special requests, but the 15 basic hats were a charity challenge.  If you see someone in downtown Prescott with one, you'll know where it came from.

And last, but not least... my new pal Ginny Weasley (Thanks Greta!) got a new hat.  It's one the human Ginny wears during the lake task in Goblet of Fire.
I've been busy, but busy is good.  Hope you all have a fantastic February!

Attack of the Killer Hats

I came across these fluffy Minnie Mouse ear barrettes and had to make a hat for them.  I could pass for 5 yrs old, right?

I'm still turning in homework at Hogwarts too.  Once of the challenges was to make something resembling a dragon.

It kinda resembles a dragon...

from a certain angle...

You might be surprised to hear that I published my pattern for this hat, and in 24 hours there have been 237 downloads.

I am definitely not the only one who appreciates silly hats.

Then we have the sports fans... I had a request for Ohio Buckeyes and Green Bay Packers hats.  The Packers hat says "Go, Pack, Go!".

Last but not least I also managed to do another baby set for one of Christy's friends.  She says they like 'hippie' things and Jerry Garcia so while I did not go all 60's psychedelic, I did keep that inspiration in mind.

The 100% cotton colors are blue and brown for Mother Earth and Father Sky - head in the clouds but feet on the ground.  I chose a mandala shape for the afghan, moccasins instead of booties, a sun hat with a tie instead of a beanie, and of course... a teddy bear.   Groovy, man.
